COVID19: We Will Spend N1bn On 3,000 Returnees For 14days – Minister

The Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation have agreed to spend over N1bn on the quarantine and feeding of over 3,000 Nigerians looking forward to evacuation in overseas countries.

The two corporations are anticipated to share the over N1bn value of motel lodging and feeding of the returnees for 14 days on arrival in the country amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, disclosed this at some point of a briefing via the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja.

The minister stated, “The Minister of Environment, Dr Mohammed Abubakar, on Friday night time calledme and suggested, ‘why not attempt NNPC, why no longer strive CBN? They have company social accountability funding.’ I advised him I would do that immediately.

“I got in contact with the governor of the CBN and I instructed him I was going to do the equal with the GMD, NNPC, Mele Kyari, and the governor of central financial institution agreed.

“We are talking of over N1bn due to the fact untilnow, we have about 4,000 Nigerians out there and if 3,000 of them come back, the fee of accommodation, feeding and the whole lot else is over N1bn that we don’t have and he stated he is prepared to discoverand share with the NNPC.”
