Any Public Officers Found Leaking Official Documents Will Be Dismissed – FG
The Federal Government has threatened to sack any public officer caught leaking reputable and unauthorized files to the public, specifically the media.
Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HoS), Dr Folasade Yemi–Esan, gave the warning in a circularsighted via our Correspondent dated May 22nd, however made public on Monday.
It described as ‘embarrassing to government’ the leaking of such documents, threatening to disregardall and sundry observed culpable of the misconduct.
The inside circular was addressed to the Chief of Staff to the President, Office of the Vice-President, Ministers, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Permanent Secretaries, and Service Chiefs/Inspector-General of Police, amongst differentPublic Officers.
It reads: “The interest of the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation has been drawn to the latestunlucky unauthorised disclosure of legit files on social media.
“In some cases, legit files that have been minuted on, are additionally leaked. This irresponsible and reckless motion is an act of serious misconduct, with a penalty of dismissal from service, as furnished for in Public Service Rules Nos. 030401 and 030402.
“The unsightly improvement is embarrassing to authorities and, therefore, now not acceptable. Any public officer caught enticing in this act of serious misconduct, will be severely dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Public Service Rules.
“Permanent Secretaries are to draw the interest of all their personnel to the contents of this circular and the penalties of breaking the rules.”
