2023: LP-NNPP merger talks are still ongoing, according to the coalition.

The bond between the Labour Party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party has not been severed.

Dr. Yunusa Tanko, Head, Public Affairs Directorate of NC Front, and Dr. Agbo Major, National Publicity Secretary of NNPP, confirmed the development in separate phone interviews with Vanguard in Abuja yesterday.

The NC Front, led by Pat Utomi, was the driving force behind the Labour Party’s selection of Peter Obi as its presidential candidate.

Tanko explained that Peter Obi’s candidacy had grown beyond his political platform, the Labour Party, into a mass movement with which Nigerians across ethno-religious and sectional divides identified.

“To the best of our knowledge, the talks between the Labour Party, which is the platform we in the NC Front, the #EndSARs, and several other civil society groups have adopted to deliver this pan-Nigerian candidate, are still in talks with the NNPP, which has some of our members,” he said.

“We are open to collaborations that will relieve our motherland of the unspeakable suffering and insecurity it is currently experiencing.” The mass unemployment, poverty, and insecurity that we have been forced to live with for the past seven years do not discriminate among Nigerians from North to South, West to East; we are all victims.

“The sooner we realize this and work together to kick out the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party, the better it will be for us all.”
In a similar vein, the NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Agbo Major, confirmed that talks about how to best collaborate ahead of the 2023 general elections were ongoing.

“The 2023 general election is still months away, and our leaders are still discussing it because we all agree that most Nigerians are tired of the mess the APC-led regime has thrown Nigeria into,” he said.

“We need each other to succeed in our mission to save this country.” Discussions are ongoing, and I can assure Nigerians that when we reach a decision, we will make it public.”
