May 1: MOP, Seun Kuti Sends Message To Nigerian Workers

The National Convener of the Movement of the people ( MOP ), Seun Anikulapo – Kuti has sent out a National message to Nigerians on the celebration of May 1st 2024 workers Day.

In a letter which was signed by Seun Anikulapo-Kuti

As May Day commences globally on the 1st of May, to celebrate the contributions and solidarity of workers all over the world to a better life for all. Mop wants to use this opportunity to show solidarity with the great Nigerian and African workers.

At this point in time, we can’t deny the precarious situation we are in as a nation. It will be almost appropriate to say things have never been this bad but alas we know, historically, that’s it has always been this hard for the working people of this country. Regardless of the dollar rate and pump price of PMS and Diesel, the capitalist driven elites of this country has made sure that millions of Nigerians live in abject poverty. It matters not if dollar is 1-1 or 1000-1 , if petrol price is 15kobo or 600 naira , they make sure they implement policies that reduce us to desperation.

Food prices are through the roof, transportation is barely affordable and in the midst of all this salaries have remained stagnant and social amenities are inadequate or largely absent.

This is a call for the working class people of Nigeria to re organise themselves along their class interests. Not to seek saviors from within the profiteer rank who can’t do anything for their country and also don’t believe that the citizens of Nigerian and Africa as a whole deserve anything if they can’t profit from it. This country can’t develop based on the profit incentive it is only by the will of her people.

Stand up Right now fight now

Suffering must stop
