Despite the fact that Enugu state government and the Institute of Management and Technology IMT Enugu aware of financial scenario of the nation, the subsequent factor they will do is to increase school charges.

IMT Enugu management has illegally increase the school fees from N40,000 to N80,000 for fresheners.

The hiking of school fees for all students of the institution is contravene the constitutional aphorism which says “Education is a right and not a privilege, funding of schooling as stipulated within the Nigerian Constitution is the only duty of government, not parents.”

Following the out crying of the student of Institute of Management and Technology IMT Enugu, this sad news of clueless decision of IMT Management coming when the scenario is tense our economy is in jeopardy, our streets have gotten unsafe because of spurge in thuggery, banditry and kidnappings and all are blaming on lack of education.

These people struggle on a regular basis against the current economic downturn to pay the fees of their children and the increase of school fees will, no doubt, send hundreds of the students out of school as a result of monumental increase in tuition fees.

Whatever is the motivation for the purported increase in the current fees, I wish to induce for a fast intervention and call on leaders of conscience, civil societies, conventional rulers and each stakeholder to intervene with a view to averting the upcoming crisis which will come up from the scenario.

In the meantime, for a Nation to thrive, a lot attention ought to be given to the educational sector as future leaders are products of a qualitative academic system and schooling is necessary as it’s a panacea for fixing problems such as illiteracy, ignorance, spiritual violence, insecurity and political servitude and it’s the fuel to a greater society.
