Carl Froch believes Anthony Joshua needs a “brain transplant” if he is to defeat Oleksandr Usyk and become a three-time world heavyweight champion.
Froch believes Joshua, who was born in Watford, has the body to take on Usyk, but questions his mentality ahead of their rematch on August 20 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Usyk won their first fight by unanimous decision last September at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Joshua now has a new trainer, Robert Garcia, who is expected to bring more aggression to the 32-year-boxing old’s style.
‘Sometimes a change is good, but Anthony Joshua needs a brain transplant to beat Oleksandr Usyk,’ Froch said on Betfred’s Lightweight Boxing Show. He has all the physical characteristics, but I don’t think he can beat him.’
Joshua’s previous fight was only his second professional defeat, as he was knocked out by Andy Ruiz Jr. in June 2019. Joshua will be looking for vengeance against Usyk, especially after leaving his previous trainer Rob McCraken to hire Garcia.
