Mr. Ayo Fayose, former governor of Ekiti State, yesterday demanded that a Southerner succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
In a tweet, Fayose, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, said it is the Southern region’s turn to produce a president.
“The PDP Constitution provides for a rotating presidency,” he wrote. Section 3(c) states that the party shall pursue its aims and objectives in accordance with the principle of equity, justice, and fairness by adhering to the policy of rotation and zoning of party and public elective offices.
“The current President of Nigeria is a two-term Northern Presidency, implying that a Southern Presidency in 2023 is required or nothing.”
Fayose also tweeted in Yoruba, “awa South lo kan,” which translates to “it is the turn of the South.”
Nigerians, according to the former governor, should “await details soon.”
