A video circulating on social media showing a group of suspected Yahoo Boys beating up an Alfa (Islamic cleric) over an alleged fraud of ₦500,000.
According to a TikTok user @______mide201 who posted the video, the Alfa had collected the sum of ₦500,000 from him and ₦450,000 from his friend.
The TikTok user claimed that the Alfa had instructed him and his friend to sell their belongings, including their laptops, to raise the money. He further alleged that the Alfa had collected their school fees.
The incident has sparked outrage among Nigerians, with many expressing their displeasure at the act of jungle justice.
The use of violence to punish individuals accused of crimes without recourse to legal processes is becoming increasingly common in Nigeria. This phenomenon is often referred to as “jungle justice.”
While it is not clear if the allegations against the Alfa are true, it is important to note that jungle justice is a violation of human rights and should be condemned. It undermines the rule of law and can lead to the loss of innocent lives.
