Labour Party’s candidate Peter Obi overtakes Tinubu in Lagos

The Labour Party (LP)’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has overtaken his All Progressives Congress (APC) rival, Bola Tinubu, in Lagos State with the results of Saturday’s presidential elections declared in 17 out of the 20 local government areas of the state so far.

Tinubu, a former governor of the state, has won more local government areas, he is trailing behind Mr Obi by a slim margin of 1,686 votes.

While Tinubu has triumphed in 10 local government areas, polling a total of 447,192 votes so far, Obi is ahead in only seven local governments, but is leading the tally narrowly with 448,878 votes.

Matter Arising earlier report that, the Lagos State Presidential Elections have been a topic of intense interest among political observers in Nigeria, and the results released so far have shown a significant lead for the All Progress Congress (APC).

Out of the 11 local government areas whose results have been released, the APC has emerged victorious in 7 of them, including Lagos Island and Lagos Mainland.

This is a significant win for the party, as these two areas are considered to be crucial battlegrounds for any political party seeking to gain control of Lagos State.

The APC’s victory in Lagos Island and Lagos Mainland was confirmed at the collation center, which was attended by representatives from all political parties contesting in the election. The results showed that the APC had a comfortable lead in both areas, with the opposition parties trailing behind. This is a significant boost for the APC, as Lagos Island and Lagos Mainland are known to be densely populated areas with a large number of eligible voters.

Apart from Lagos Island and Lagos Mainland, the APC also won in Epe, Badagry, Agege, Ibeju-Lekki, and Ikorodu. These areas are known to be strongholds of the APC, and their victory in these areas was not unexpected. However, the Labour Party (LP) also had a share of the spoils, winning in three local government areas: Amuwo-odofin, Ikeja, and Kosofe. This is a significant achievement for the LP, as these areas are also considered to be politically important.

With more results expected to be announced soon, the Lagos State Presidential Elections remain a closely contested affair. The results released so far show a significant lead for the APC, but the opposition parties are still in the race. It remains to be seen how the remaining local government areas will vote, and whether the APC can maintain its lead.
