The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) in collaboration with the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) and the State Taskforce, have continued to enforce the Governor’s directive to sanitize Banana Island in Lagos. As part of this initiative, LASBCA has re-sealed 12 buildings that were previously sealed and removed two illegal fences.
These buildings were sealed due to various contraventions such as building without Planning Permit Approval, failure to obtain Authorization to Commence Construction from LASBCA, and breaking the Government Seal.
The General Manager of LASBCA, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, led the operation and stated that the ongoing removal and sealing of these buildings in Banana Island and across the State is aimed at ensuring compliance on the part of the building publics in order to bring sanity to the built sector.
The built sector in Lagos has been facing challenges with compliance to building regulations, leading to unsafe structures and environmental degradation. The government’s action in enforcing building regulations is a welcome development that would promote safety and improve the environment. It is important to ensure that buildings are constructed according to standards to prevent disasters such as building collapses.
The Lagos State Government has been proactive in ensuring compliance to building regulations. This action sent a strong message to developers and property owners to adhere to building regulations or face the consequences.
The recent operation in Banana Island shows that the government is committed to ensuring that buildings are constructed according to standards.
The re-sealing of the 12 buildings and removal of illegal fences serves as a deterrent to other property owners who may be tempted to flout building regulations. The operation also shows that the government is not selective in enforcing building regulations as it is carried out across the State.
It is important for property owners and developers to obtain the necessary approvals and permits before commencing construction to avoid contravening building regulations.
