Lagos Taskforce Decries attack on its personnel, family members
The Management of the Lagos State Taskforce has condemned in entirety the spate and manner in which officials of the Agency and members of their family are attacked and victimized by unscrupulous elements within the metropolis for carrying out their legitimate duties according to the confines of the Law.

This statement was made by the Director Public Affairs, Mr Gbadeyan Abdulraheem at the Headquarters of the Agency in Bolade, Oshodi where he addressed members of staff who gathered on the premises of the Agency to register their displeasure at the ugly incidents and occurrences bedevilling them and innocent members of their families.

He appealed to them to remain dedicated to their duties of ensuring that there is adequate safety and security in the State and assured them that mechanisms are being put in place to apprehend anyone carrying hate crimes against officers and men of the Taskforce.

“These incidents are becoming rampant and worrisome and i can assure you all that alot of work is being done underground to nip it in the bud. Your job as law enforcers comes with risks and sacrifices, one of which is what we are experiencing currently but we will put a stop to  it and arrest anyone who tries to physically assault us for doing what is right”

Gbadeyan made references to past events where officers of the Agency were attacked while carrying out okada enforcement operations at Amuwo-Odofin and were attacked by okada operators leavings some officers injured and operational vehicles damaged beyond repairs.

“We were shelled from all angles by these okada operators who tried to resist the confiscation of their bikes but we were steadfast and returned there the following day to complete the task despite our losses. That is who we are and that is what we signed up for as law enforcers in a metropolitan city like Lagos”

Mr Gbadeyan while consoling  the family members of victims who were recently attacked stated that the family of police men and paramilitary men attached to the Agency had been attacked in not less than five different locations in the State between the month of February to June.

The wife of a Man-o-war officer was attacked in Iju-Ishaga while going to church in the evening just because her husband was part of those who carried out enforcement exercises in Abule-Egba earlier that same day. A “WAI” Brigade officer’s wife and children were also attacked and beaten up by some miscreants at her shop just last week, simply because her husband was carrying out his legitimate duty.

“I received a distress call personally in March this year  from one of the paramilitary officers attached to us here that his brother was almost lynched to death  at Idi-Oro because someone identified him as a relative of one of the officers of the Agency. Not too long ago one of the policemen attached to our Agency relocated from Ajegunle area to Sango as a result of series of attacks  and embarrasment from the area boys around his former residence.

An inspector of police attached to us once called the 2ic around 1am of receiving a death treat at Lekki-Ajah axis from drivers and bus conductors who were apprehended for driving against traffic. We will not.forget in a hurry the unfortunate incident that happened to one of our men after our enforcement for compliance operations at Ojodu Berger. There are thousand and one other instances of attacks like these and I must say It is quite appalling that we have to go through these for doing our job” Gbadeyan stated.

The Director consoled members of their families who had experienced such attacks and promised to get to the root of the matter. He asked them to get adequate medical attention for the injuries sustained and be more alert when going to areas where they could be easily identified as relatives of Taskforce operatives.

He maintained that despite the challenges being faced by members of staff, the officers remained resolute in ensuring that defaulters of the law are apprehended and brought to the court of law. He appealed to those who might have experienced some form of wanton attacks or harassments by criminal elements in town to shake it off and carry on with their job. He assured them that in no time, the criminals will meet their water loo

“Actions like these are wake up call to the fact there are more criminal elements out there who are all out to frustrate the efforts of the State Government  but they are no match for us. We will attain and sustain safety and serenity according to the mandate of responsibilities” he concluded.
