Life Lost, Many Badly Injured in Havoc Rainstorm in Ilorin, Kwara Capital city
The havoc rainstorm has rendered the people of ilorin, the capital city of kwara State homeless, life lost while many were injured according to the report by Kwara State fire service.
Matters Arising gathered that the heavy downpour started at about 12pm- 1am in the middle of night on Saturday 20th September 2020.
The Kwara Governor, Abdurahman Abdulrasaq has express concern, commiserate with the victims and said he has visited NEMa and other Federal agencies to seek for special relief for kwarans.
The Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq statement reads
I am saddened by the havoc wreaked on various households in Ilorin, the state capital, and indeed elsewhere across the state by yesterday’s heavy rain storm. I commiserate with those affected by it.
Informed by NIMET prediction of the incoming storm, I had visited NEMA and other Federal Agencies last week to seek special relief for Kwara. On our part, we are immediately setting up a special disaster response team to collate data of areas affected and determine how the state government can offer support based on available resources.
Also, the impact of the storm on electric poles around the state is a huge concern to our administration; therefore, I have directed relevant agencies to quickly fix the poles as soon as possible to ensure restoration of power.
Meanwhile, in the Kwara State Fire Service statement on her Facebook page reads
The Kwara State Fire Service has been attending to several Rescue Operations across the state since yesterday’s hea’vy downpour which had badly destroyed many people’s life and property.
Part of this operation, was the “Rescue Work” carried out around 23:21hrs today, at Opposite C&S Church Muritala Area, Ilorin.
Where seven able men were rescued well alive, then taken to the State General Hospital (Surulere) for further medical checkups.
This tremendous effort was able to be achieved, as a result of special assistance from the Honourable Commissioner for works and transport, Alhaji Suleiman R. Iliasu in communicating with the appropriate channels for receiving the Victims.
Others places affected were: Ita Egba and Emir’s Road
Therefore, Director State Fire Service Alh. Waheed I. Yakub urged the general public to always play safe whenever they find themselves. Especially during this period of incessant downpour. Thanks
