MTN, Glo, Airtel and there network provider subscribers must adapt to the new unified USSD codes introduced by their mobile network service provider. This change follows the approval of a unified USSD code system for all mobile networks in Nigeria by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). Starting from May 18, 2023, the NCC approved unified USSD codes will be the only way to check credit or recharge lines across all mobile networks.
The NCC had previously notified all relevant parties to migrate and implement the unified USSD codes by May 17, 2023. The purpose of this migration is to establish Harmonized Short Codes (HSC) that will exclusively serve as the means to recharge or check balance on all mobile networks.
As an MTN subscriber, you will no longer be able to recharge your line using the regular MTN codes such as *555# and *556#. This change also applies to other mobile network providers such as Glo, Airtel, 9mobile, and others. Failure to migrate to the unified USSD codes will result in the inability of these providers to serve their customers effectively.
Consequently, all mobile network services will utilize the same customer care number, code for checking data balances, and code for credit recharge. This unified approach aims to streamline the user experience across different mobile networks, making it more convenient for customers.
By adopting the NCC approved unified USSD codes, mobile network service providers aim to enhance efficiency and improve the overall user experience. Subscribers will benefit from a standardized system that simplifies credit recharge and checking data balances, irrespective of their mobile network provider.
It is crucial for MTN subscribers, and all mobile network users, to familiarize themselves with the new unified USSD codes. This will ensure a smooth transition and uninterrupted access to mobile network services. The unified USSD codes will be the primary means for recharging credit, checking balances, and accessing customer care services across all mobile networks in Nigeria.
