The statement made by Igbo Cleric Fr Ebube Muonso in a video that has been making rounds on social media is not only divisive but also deeply concerning.
Fr Muonso was captured making the statement that “One Igbo man is equivalent to 500 Hausa men” during a church service. Such statements only serve to further deepen ethnic tensions and create animosity between different groups of people.
It is important to note that every ethnic group in Nigeria has its own unique strengths and contributions to the country’s development. To assert that one group is superior to the other is not only false but also dangerous. It promotes the idea of ethnic superiority and can fuel conflict and violence.
It is disheartening that Igbos don’t see tribalism when they are attacking other tribes verbally. However, when they responded to in kind, they cry foul and seek to portray themselves as the victims. This only serves to perpetuate the cycle of hatred and division.
It is important for Nigerians to embrace diversity and recognize that we are all equal and have something valuable to contribute to our country’s development. We should celebrate our differences and work towards building a united and prosperous Nigeria.
A statements such as the one made by Fr Ebube Muonso are not only divisive but also dangerous. We should all work towards promoting unity and respect for one another, regardless of our ethnic or religious affiliations. Only then can we truly build a better and brighter future for Nigeria.
