In what can only be described as a major upset, Peter Obi has emerged as the winner of the presidential election conducted in Lagos state, defeating Bola Tinubu, a two-term Governor of the state and candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The former Governor of Anambra state, who was the candidate of the Labour Party, polled a total of 582,354 votes, while Tinubu could only manage 572,606 votes.
The victory of Obi, who is widely regarded as a seasoned technocrat and a respected political figure in Nigeria, has sent shockwaves across the country and is seen as a major boost to the opposition’s chances in the 2023 general elections.
