Peter Obi hires 20 SANs to challenge Tinubu’s victory

The presidential election held in Nigeria on February 25, 2023, was one of the most anticipated events in the country’s political history. The stakes were high, and the candidates campaigned vigorously across the country, promising to improve the lives of Nigerians if elected.

One of the candidates that contested the election was Dr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP). Dr. Obi had a massive support base and campaigned on a platform of job creation, infrastructure development, and good governance.

However, when the results of the election were announced, it was Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that emerged as the winner. Tinubu secured a total of 8,794,726 votes, defeating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Dr. Peter Obi of the LP, who obtained 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes, respectively.

The LP, however, was not satisfied with the outcome of the election and has since enlisted the services of at least 20 senior advocates of Nigeria (SANs) to challenge the results in court. According to PUNCH newspaper, lawyers from various chambers have been furnished with materials that will serve as evidence in court.

The LP is alleging that there were irregularities in the conduct of the election, and that some votes were either not counted or were counted wrongly. The party has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of colluding with the APC to rig the election in favor of Tinubu.

The LP’s decision to challenge the results in court has generated a lot of reactions from Nigerians. While some people believe that the LP has the right to seek redress in court, others are of the opinion that the party should accept the outcome of the election and move on.

Regardless of the outcome of the court case, it is essential that Nigerians learn to respect the will of the people as expressed through the ballot box. The election is over, and it is time for the winners to begin the task of governing and delivering on their promises to the people
