Asari Dokubo, a prominent Nigerian activist and former militant leader in the Niger Delta region, recently made comments about the just-concluded presidential election in Nigeria.
In a video that has been circulating on social media, Dokubo praised Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state for his support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu, and for his efforts in delivering significant votes to Tinubu in the state.
He also criticized Chibuike Amaechi, a former Governor of Rivers state and former Minister of Transportation under President Muhammadu Buhari, for supporting Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Dokubo referred to Amaechi as a “traitor” and questioned how he must be feeling in light of Tinubu’s victory. The comments have generated mixed reactions from Nigerians, with some applauding Dokubo’s support for Governor Wike and his criticism of Amaechi, while others have criticized his divisive rhetoric.
The presidential election in Nigeria was held on February 25, 2023, and was won by Bola Tinubu of the APC. The election was marked by a high level of tension and controversy, with allegations of vote rigging, voter suppression, and other irregularities. Despite these challenges, Tinubu’s victory was widely celebrated by members of the APC and his supporters across the country.
However, many Nigerians have expressed concerns about the role of money and other factors in the electoral process, and have called for reforms to ensure greater transparency and accountability in future elections.
There have also been concerns about the security situation in the country, with widespread violence and insecurity affecting many parts of the country.
Despite these challenges, many Nigerians remain optimistic about the future of the country, and believe that with the right leadership and policies, Nigeria can overcome its challenges and realize its potential as a great nation.
There is a growing recognition of the need for unity, dialogue, and cooperation among Nigerians of different backgrounds and political persuasions, in order to build a more peaceful, prosperous, and inclusive society.
