South East Governors Ignored IPOB Invites MSSOB to its Meeting held in Enugu
The Southeast Governors have ended the two -day closed-door meeting with critical stakeholders, women organizations, MASSOB group, and some youth organizations in the region on how to restore lasting peace and development across Southeast after the just ended EndSARS protest, social unrest across Nigeria.
The two day closed-door meeting which held at Enugu state Government House, has the governors and stakeholders resolve to go back to their various states to take actions towards making things better in their states to regain people’s confidence in government.
Speaking on behalf of the governors, the Chairman Southeast Governors Forum, Engineer Dave Umahi said the group will do everything possible to meet the demands of MASSOP and youths in the zone for enthronement of last peace and harmony in states across Southeast.
He assured that the governors will swing into action immediately to actualize the aim of the two day meeting in their various states.
Earlier in a communiqué read on behalf of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, the Leader of the group, Comrade Uchenna Madu demanded that federal government as a matter of urgency address critical challenges facing the southeast including construction of all the deplorable roads in the zone, disarming of Fulani Herdsmen, providing opportunity for Igbo’s presidency in 2023, and creation of one more state in southeast to make it become like other states in the country.
He further called on federal government to address the discrimination and marginalization of Ndi Igbo in the federal civil service, and called the Southeast Governors Forum to nominate committee that will monitor the compensation of victims of the recent crisis in the zone.
Speaking on behalf of the youths, the Executive Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria, Enugu state chapter, Comrade Pascal Ugwu thanked the Governors for accommodating the youths in the meeting, saying that such depicts youths inclusiveness in decision making in the zone.
The meeting is being presided over by the Chairman, Southeast Governors Forum, Engineer Dave Umahi who is also the Governor of Ebonyi state, and had in attendance the Enugu state Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, that of Abia, Okezie Ikpeazu, Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state represented by his deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke, and Imo state Governor Hope Uzodimma also represented by his deputy.
Among stakeholders present at the event include state Minister for Environment, Dr Sharon Ikeazo, Minister for Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeamah, State Minister for Environment, Dr Sharon Ikeazo, Senator Ikeh Ekweremmadu, Chairman Southeast Traditional Rulers Forum and the Traditional Ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, President of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo Worldwide, Chief Nnia Nwodo.
Our Government House Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo reports that the Governors in company of the stakeholders visited some of the places the hoodlums destroyed properties in Enugu state, including two commercial banks at Independence Layout Enugu and Emena Police Headquarters in the state.
