A student of the Department of English at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Nigeria Nsukka UNN, Enugu State, has been left in a state of shock and trauma after a horrific incident involving one of her lecturers. The student, identified as Blessing, was a 100-level student who was pursuing her degree in English at the prestigious university.
According to reports, on Monday, February 13, the student was involved in an altercation with her lecturer, Mr. Ukwueze Ogochukwu, that resulted in her being hospitalized.
Eyewitnesses reported that the incident took place after Mr. Ukwueze’s class had ended and the students were trying to sign his attendance. Apparently, out of frustration, Mr. Ukwueze threw a stone into the crowd of students, not realizing the serious consequences that would ensue.
Tragically, the stone hit Blessing on the head, causing her to start bleeding profusely. She lost consciousness and was rushed to the university’s medical center for treatment.
Videos of the incident have been circulating on social media, showing Blessing being carried away on a bike and lying in a hospital bed in visible pain. Her fellow students have expressed their shock and disbelief at the events that have transpired and have staged a protest, demanding Mr. Ukwueze’s immediate dismissal from the university.
According to a student who witnessed the incident narrate that, the lecturer threw stones at them and that they initially thought it was a joke until Blessing fainted. The student adds that they helped to take her to the medical center using a motorcycle and that they were eventually able to accost the lecturer, but he was rescued by final year students.
The university administration has yet to release an official statement on the incident, but students have called for swift action to be taken against the lecturer responsible. It is truly a sad day when such a horrific incident takes place within the walls of a university, and it highlights the need for greater awareness and education about the consequences of such actions.
Blessing is currently receiving medical treatment, and we wish her a speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with her and her family during this difficult time, and we hope that justice will be served in this case.
The safety and well-being of all students should always be a top priority for universities, and it is unacceptable that such a traumatic incident could occur within the confines of an institution of higher learning.
