A fire broke out on Thursday morning in a multi-story building at Balogun Market on Lagos Island, causing extensive damage. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, but it is believed to have started on the upper floors of the building.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing thick smoke and flames coming from the building, and several people were seen trying to escape the building.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) was quickly alerted and emergency services, including firefighters and paramedics, were dispatched to the scene.
As at time of this report, no injuries or deaths have been reported so far, but several people were evacuated from the building as a precaution. The extent of the damage to the building is still being assessed, but it is believed to be substantial.
The Balogun Market is one of the most popular markets in Lagos, known for its wide range of goods and services.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and authorities are urging people to stay away from the area while they work to contain the fire.
