The University of Benin (UNIBEN) student protests on Tuesday, January 24th, following the death of the school’s director of sports, Perez Boubouwei.

According to reports, Boubouwei fell ill on Sunday, January 22nd and was admitted to the school’s teaching hospital (UBTH) where he passed away on Tuesday morning.

Students of the university have accused the health workers at the teaching hospital of negligence, claiming that doctors insisted on a deposit before commencing treatment and proceeded to administer injections without conducting proper tests.

This has led to outrage and disappointment among the student body, who came out in large numbers to express their grievances.

The police were eventually called to the scene, and a video has emerged of a clash between the protesting students and the police.

The situation is still developing and more information is yet to come out. The University of Benin has not yet released an official statement on the matter.
