In the aftermath of the recent presidential election in which Labour Party candidate Peter Obi suffered defeat, a tragic incident occurred in Enugu.
A group of unidentified assailants, believed to be enforcing an illegal sit-at-home order in the state, carried out a deadly attack in the early hours of Monday, March 6th, 2023. As a result, one individual has been reported dead, and a number of vehicles were set on fire.
Specifically, the attack took place at Liberty Bus stop in Abakpa, Enugu East Local Government Area, and resulted in the destruction of two Sienna vehicles and five tricycles, commonly known as Keke Napep.
Eyewitnesses described how the attackers arrived at the scene at around 5:30am and quickly began their destructive rampage.
Sadly, the violence did not stop there. The gunmen also targeted an elderly man at a popular T-junction, attempting to force him out of his car before setting the vehicle alight with the man still inside.
According to an eyewitness, the man put up a struggle, but the assailants were determined to cause harm. They reportedly shot into the fuel tank, causing the car to explode and the man to perish in the flames.
These senseless acts of violence have caused shock and grief among the local community, and it is vital that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The authorities must take swift action to investigate the incidents and ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
