A Twitter user identified as Omojadesola (@jadesolar_01) has expressed her thoughts on the ongoing feud between Seun Kuti and Peter Okoye, two popular Nigerian musicians.
The feud started after Peter Okoye criticized Seun Kuti’s political views and support for the current Nigerian government back 2015. This criticism sparked a heated debate on social media, with many people taking sides and expressing their views on the matter.
The Twitter user, Omojadesola, however, took issue with Yoruba youths who she believed were supporting Peter Okoye and speaking ill of Fela and Seun Kuti.
According to her, these youths were doing so in order to be seen in good book of the Igbos, a major ethnic group in Nigeria. She warned these youths that they will regret their actions in the future and that they should not betray their own heritage and culture just to appease another group.
Omojadesola went on to say that the people pushing Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and current Presidential candidate, to become the president have an agenda that has nothing to do with the unity of Nigeria. She pointed out that these people only want to further their own interests and that they do not have the best interests of the nation at heart.
The tweet read:
“Look at yoruba youths making a fool out of themselves by joining Psquare to talk down on Fela and Seun Kuti, all these just because you want to appear in the good book of the Igbos, like i always say, many of you will regret all your actions after Peter Obi has lost this election”
You will see the true color of those you are joining force with to talk down on your race because of validation, you will come to realize those who are pushing Peter Obi to become the president has an agenda that has nothing to do with one Nigeria, until then keep fooling around
This tweet has sparked a debate among the Twitter community, with some agreeing with @jadesolar_01’s views while others disagreeing. Some Twitter users pointed out that people should be free to support whoever they wish and that it is not a matter of one’s ethnic background. They argued that supporting a political candidate should be based on their policies and beliefs, rather than their ethnic background.
Others, however, agreed with @jadesolar_01’s view, stating that supporting Peter Okoye at the expense of Seun Kuti and Fela is a betrayal of one’s heritage and culture. They pointed out that the music of Fela Kuti and Seun Kuti represents the cultural identity of the Yoruba people and that speaking ill of these musicians is equivalent to speaking ill of one’s own culture. They argued that it is important to support leaders who represent and respect one’s culture, rather than blindly following someone just to be seen in good light by another group.
The feud between Seun Kuti and Peter Okoye has brought up larger issues regarding the support of the Yoruba youth for political candidates and their beliefs. @jadesolar_01’s tweet highlights the importance of staying true to one’s cultural and ethnic background, rather than supporting someone just for validation from another group.
The ongoing debate among the Twitter community shows that this issue is not one that will be easily resolved and that it continues to cause heated discussions.
It is important for people to have a clear understanding of their cultural identity and heritage and to support leaders who respect and represent these values. This will not only bring unity among different ethnic groups but will also help to preserve the unique cultural heritage of each group.
The ongoing debate on this issue shows that it is a sensitive topic and one that requires careful consideration and understanding.
