You are Jeopardizing Our Children’s Future by Not Reopen Schools, Safety Of Your Kids Important to Us – Kwara Govt. Reply Parent

Recall that parent in Kwara state has called out Kwara state government for been reluctant in reopening of schools in the state, parents alleged the Kwara state government of been jeopardized the future of their children.

The Kwara state government in a response, expressed concern about the safety of the pupils and their parent from possible community transmission of the deadly virus (Covid19). A statement made available by spokesman to Kwara state governor Mr. Rafiu Ajakaiye says work is ongoing to safely return our kids to school, He said.

The statement reads

We truly appreciate the concern of parents and teachers alike. Definitely our schools can’t be shut forever, That’s not an option. Work is ongoing to safely return our kids to school. But the govt is fully conscious of its responsibility to the people. Those making snide remarks against the govt for being careful are also appreciated.

We have noted their comments. It is their democratic right. But if govt doesn’t share its burden with them, including taking care of physical and psychological effects of the pandemic on the populace, they should pls calm down and trust the govt to deliver on its mandate to protect the citizens. It has been elected to take hard decisions. The easiest thing is to ask schools to open up. It costs nothing to make that announcement.

But that comes with its consequences for the govt and families. A few weeks ago when a student came down with the virus, the govt and the family of the student had to face down a reckless abuse and the emerging psychological issues that arose even after the treatment. That student is still being taken care of by the govt because they (pardon the pronoun) and their family were facing psychological torture from their own teachers!!! Do we announce that to the public? No.

We cannot. But we have a responsibility to ensure they return to school and their life is not damaged entirely because she came down with a virus. We are training teachers and reaching out to various quarters ahead of resumption which will happen soon. That training is still being stepped down to the grassroots. We have said this on radio and elsewhere.

Govt will open our schools. That it must do. But it would be done after ensuring safety of the citizens especially our younger ones. For those who referenced Lagos and elsewhere, this is Kwara. We have our peculiarities. Lagos has its its own. Same for Oyo. And Osun. Etc. For instance, the incident with the student can hardly occur in Lagos. We call for patience and understanding. The government perfectly understands its duties to the people. It is delivering on just that.
